Special Collections Conservation

Work on Special Collection material is a collaborative effort between our collection managers and our conservator.  The physical biography of the object can often be just as important as the words on the page so conserving as much of the original materials that make up the item is key.  For this reason, treatment proposals are agreed to before the varied work is performed and the collection managers are informed throughout the whole conservation process.  Often, bespoke housing is created to protect items and make them as accessible and as stable as research requires.
